iCloud Private Relay on Taylor's Networks

Introduction

iCloud Private Relay is a new internet privacy service offered as a part of an iCloud+ subscription that allows users on iOS 15, iPadOS 15, and macOS Monterey to connect to and browse the web more privately and securely. Private Relay protects users’ web browsing in Safari, DNS resolution queries, and insecure http app traffic. Internet connections set up through Private Relay use anonymous IP addresses that map to the region a user is in, without divulging the user’s exact location or identity (source).

On Taylor's Network

Private Relay cannot be used on any of Taylor's networks because it can be used as a method of circumventing our firewall. Using this feature while connected to Taylor's network will result in your traffic being blocked. To get your internet working again, you only need to disable Private Relay for Taylor's networks.

Disabling Private Relay

If you try to use Private Relay on Taylor's network it should automatically turn itself off after a few minutes. However, should that not happen, here are the steps to disabling it manually. Note that this will not disable Private Relay entirely and that this will only turn the feature off for Taylor's networks.

Step 1

  • Open the 'Settings' app
  • Go to 'Wi-Fi'
  • Tap the blue 'i' symbol located to the right of the network

Step 2

  • Turn off the toggle for 'iCloud Private Relay'
